LibreOffice Calc spreadsheets

For those of us who find "R" too laborious, the table below lists a small collection of LibreOffice worksheets. These Spredsheets are mainly used to recalculate microprobe analyzes and to calculate the CIPW norm.
The spreadsheets contain macros. In order to be able to use all functions, you must allow the execution of macros in LibreOffice. The macros were created with LibreOffice 7.
You can download the worksheets individually or as a complete package. Some of the files are available in a German and an English version. Most of them are in English. If there are instructions and explanations, these are included in the files in German, English and French. All worksheets are available as *.ods and *.ots files.

Plagioclase-garnet-barometer

Simple spreadsheet without macros to calculate pressure values for a specific temperature according to Ghent & Stout (1981) and Hodges & Spear (1984) from analyzes of garnet, biotite, muscowite and plagioclase from a rock sample.

Amphibole Thermo-Barometer Bundle

This package contains the following spreadsheets:

  • The Al-in-Hornblende barometer according to Johnson & Rutherford (1989)
    Online version
  • Recalculation of trivalent iron and calculation of the occupation / activities in amphiboles, as well as temperature calculation with the hornblende-plagioclase thermometer according to Holland & Blundy (1994); Thermometers A and B; Versions with macros and without macros

Feldspar

This worksheet is used for manual and automatic recalculation of microprobe data from feldspar analyzes. The cations (on the basis of 8 oxygens) and the end members albite, anorthite, orthoclase and celsian are calculated.
The feldspar compositions are automatically plotted in the ternary Ab-Or-An diagram.

Garnet (GarnetCalc)

GarnetCalc is for manual or fully automatic calculation of garnet analyzes with an Fe³⁺ estimate and end-member calculation (for garnets with (Mg+Mn)<Al and (Cr+Ti+Fe³⁺)<Ca). The analysis results are normalized to 8 cations. The tetrahedron position is filled with Al³⁺.
The compositions of the garnets are automatically plotted in the ternary P-GA-AS diagram. Here you can also enter data manually to show them on the P-GA-AS diagram.

Muscovite (MicaCalc)

This program automatically or manually re-calculates muscovite analyses on the basis of 22 oxygens.

Additionally, the following diagrams are automatically generated:

  • "Phengite-barometer": Si/f.u. vs Al/f.u. (11 O)
  • The ternary Muscovite-Paragonite-Celadonite (Mu-Pg-Ce) diagram
  • The ternary A'KF-diagram
  • The AFM-diagram (Ms)
  • The AFM-diagram (Kf)

Amphibole

The amphibole bundle consists of three spreadsheets:

  • AmphiCalc
  • AmphiCalc Franz & Häussinger
  • AmphiReCalc

AmphiCalc:

This program for LibreOffice Calc automatically calculates the formula composition, the Fe²⁺- and Fe³⁺ distribution, as well as other parameters of amphiboles from microprobe analyses. Additionally, the following diagrams are automatically generated: the LEAKE classification diagram, the ACF-diagram and the AFM-diagram.

Several calculation routines are available (information is included in the spreadsheet):

  • Amp13RM: Calculation based on 13 cations without Na, K, Mn and Ca
  • Amp13RX: Calculation based on 13 cations without Na, K, Ca
  • Amp15KX: calculation based on 15 cations without K; Ca only in position B
  • Amp15KC: calculation based on 15 cations without K; Ca also at position C
  • Amp15RX: calculation based on 15 cations without Na, K; Ca only in position B

AmphiCalc Franz & Häussinger:

This LibreOffice Calc spreadsheet automatically calculates from microprobe analyzes the formula composition, the Fe²⁺- and Fe³⁺ distribution, and other parameters of amphiboles. It allows for an Fe²⁺/Fe³⁺ estimation taking into account the condition of PAPIKE et al. (1974). This procedure was created by Franz & Häussinger (1990). More information is given in the spreadsheet.
Here too, the LEAKE classification diagram, the ACF-diagram and the AFM-diagram are automatically generated.

AmphiReCalc:

This program for LibreOffice Calc calculates, either manually or fully automatically, the formula composition, the Fe²⁺- and Fe³⁺ distribution, as well as other parameters of amphiboles from microprobe analyzes. Based on the calculation scheme of PAPIKE et al. (1974), it allows a reverse calculation of amphibole analyses (Fe₂O₃ to FeO). You'll find more information in the spreadsheet.
Here too, the LEAKE classification diagram, the ACF-diagram and the AFM-diagram are automatically generated.

Biotite

This spreadsheet for LibreOffice Calc calculates from microprobe analyses of biotites the cations (based on 22 oxygens), the grid space occupation, as well as the data for triangular diagrams and the end members (after Holdaway et al. 1988).
The ternary diagrams are the A'KF diagram, as well as the AFM-Diagrams (Ms and Kf)

CIPWCalc – CIPW norm calculation

CIPWCalc automatically calculates the CIPW norm from rock analyses.
Additionally, the Streckeisen-Diagram (QAPF) is automatically generated, into which data may also be entered manually without calculating the norm.

CIPWcalc also exists as "RockClass" as an online application.

Minetosh online would like to expressly thank the authors of the original files and programs on which the above spreadsheets are based. Their work ist gratefully acknowledged.

The original programming of the CIPW norm calculation for Microsoft Excel was done by Kurt Hollocher, Geology Department, Union College, Schenectady, NY, 12308, USA.

The other LibreOffice spreadsheets – also programmed by Jürgen Schäfer – are based on "Framework" programs originally written by the workgroup of Martin Okrusch at the Institute for Mineralogy at the University of Würzburg (Institut für Geographie und Geologie, Department of Geodynamics & Geomaterials Research, Am Hubland, 97074 Würzburg, Germany). Mainly by Leander Franz und Horst Häussinger and partially by Ulrich Schüßler.
